Approximately 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.
Police say they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.
The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then discovered many other smeared cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Police report early analysis show the fluid was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; investigators are not yet cognizant of any injuries in relation with the event," they commented.
City officials said they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have requested to the community for details.
A senior representative commented the incident left him speechless and required to be resolved quickly.
"This incident hits the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, referring to the murder of nine victims by a shooter targeting individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
